Danielle Hutchens

Natural Pigment Paintings

July - September

About the Artist

Danielle Hutchens is a Topanga based painter and ceramicist, using a sustainable practice to bring an earthy essence to her pieces. Her work explores themes of play, the balance of feminine and masculine energy, and curiosity of nature through the hands-on, patient process of natural materials.

This body of work is made from harvested and sustainably sourced natural earth pigment.

From the artist: “Nature has always been my muse and now recently my material.

My ceramics process is intentionally sustainable, and now I am finding ways to make my painting practice as environmentally neutral as possible too.

My process includes sourcing pigments from hikes and mixing with nontoxic binders like walnut oil. I’ve also been experimenting with recycled clay as color on unprimed canvas – fusing my practices and media together naturally.

My intention with my art is to make myself happy. And if it trickles out and makes someone else happy, then there’s even more to be grateful for.”

Ewan Robertson

LA-Based Photographer

Public Showing at Artemis Studio LA

March - April 2022

Ewan believes in the power of art as a universal language. The ability it has to distill the chaos and beauty that surrounds us in this world, regardless of our backgrounds or cultural differences. Ewan grew up in and around the highlands of Scotland and his inspiration is deeply rooted within his heritage. With its vast raw landscape and rugged coastline, it provoked a deep sense of appreciation for the elements of nature in its simplest form. His passion for art has grown to become a medium to explore the relationship between storytelling and minimalism, bringing attention to the beauty that lies within the free-for-all that is life.

While on a shoot, Ewan connects with his surroundings, carefully considering all the variables and elements that bring presence to our world. For him, photography provides a poem about time. A deeply personal opportunity to communicate, stimulate, frame, and thus bring new meaning to the way we interact with our small slice of the universe. An offering to unravel the illusion of time and bask in an infinite moment.

A select passage of paintings by

Dionne Lewis

Having past lives as a Fashion Designer, Interior Designer and television Art Director, paint + canvas is now my intoxicating walk of life. A fortuitous car accident completely changed my world and birthed my passion for painting modern fine art.

My work is infused with loving, grounded energy and the process is meditative. I very rarely have a plan, mostly a feeling and I begin to paint. It’s a beautiful dance between the materials and my soul.

Through the years I've taught myself patience, minimalism, follow where the work wants to go, and to know when a piece is done. Oil is my medium of choice because it feels right for my love of process + patience, and sometimes I combine oil and water. Combining two conflicting materials is something I seem to explore often, and I create harmony when doing so. It’s the push and pull of opposite energy that creates balance. My art parallels my inner story, while I introspectively learn and challenge myself through my work. Each frame is thoughtfully designed by me and I have it custom built. It’s the final element of my work, like an ending punctuation mark to a beautiful sentence.

In the end, the infused energy is meant to be passed on in hopes that whatever someone’s soul is looking for they will find it within my work.
